Shopping for health insurance can be overwhelming. Here’s some information to help you better understand Individual Health Insurance.
You can enroll into an individual health plan during open enrollment each year between Nov. 1 and Jan. 15.
You may qualify for special enrollment if you have experienced any of the following qualifying events: Loss of qualified health care, loss of employment, moved, marital status change, gained a dependent.
When choosing a health plan, you will want to consider which type of network is best for you. Consider the pros and cons of both HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations) and PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations):
HMO – Health Maintenance Organization
Pros - HMO plans typically have lower monthly premiums and out of pocket cost.
Cons – HMO plans require you to choose a primary care physician within the HMO network and referrals are required for specialist visits.
PPO – Preferred Provider Organization
Pros – Provider freedom. No referral required to see a specialist.
Cons – May have higher monthly premiums and out of pocket costs.
Tax subsidies may be available based on your household income. To see if you qualify visit www.healthcare.gov . If you do qualify, create your account within the marketplace and you’ll be able to shop for plans and enroll right from the comfort of your own home.
Enrollment can be done directly with the carrier as well if you do not qualify or choose not to utilize a tax credit. Contact Ieuter Insurance Group and ask for a Benefits Account Manager for more information.
