After a loss happens, whether it is damage to your Home or your Auto, many things are running though your mind.
“Who do I call for repairs?”
“Is this covered?”
“What is my deductible?”
Something to always keep in mind is to make sure that you are mitigating the issues as soon as possible. Whether it is a hole in your roof (cover it with a tarp), a tree down (get it removed), or a vehicle accident (get an estimate started), you want to make sure that further damage is not going to occur. This is important because further damage can make it hard for an adjuster to tell what the initial cause of damage is and what is actually covered by your policy. Even if some or all of a loss is not covered, it is still your responsibility to mitigate the damages to prevent further losses from being reduced or denied.
